Rep. Steve Cohen (Dem.-TN), who is no stranger to dressing up for the cameras, will serve as proof of that. Because of then-AG Bill Barr rescheduling a hearing, this is the same person who once took a bucket of KFC with him to the hearing.
The “right-wing” High Court was criticized by Cohen on Tuesday for supporting the constitution and requiring the Biden admin. to abide by the law, among other things. Cohen then went on a tirade. The congressman then declared that black people and women do not have rights that are endowed by God.
“COHEN: He said that all of our rights are gifts from God, therefore I wish I had questioned him about them. I was just curious as to when God chose to grant women with the right to vote and also why he didn’t do so back in, oh, the 1700s. In the 1780s, the Constitution was drafted. I find it hard to imagine that God would oppose women’s voting rights.”
“And when God ruled that slavery would be prohibited. God approved of slavery up until a war broke out in which millions of people died, at which point he changed his mind. That’s difficult to imagine.”
That probably sounded much smarter in his brain.
Let me assist Cohen. The US government isn’t God. Natural rights are those that are accorded by God and not by documents created by men. Not only does that confusion make no sense, but it also completely contradicts what the phrase “God-given rights” implies historically.
The entire purpose of mentioning God-given rights is to emphasize that unalienable rights exist independently of all political restrictions. Rights are not rights if they are granted by politicians. They are only concessions made by dictators.
