The student pictured here could have really used a quick history lesson before hopping on the gun control bandwagon.
We could go on and on about how the sign the student is holding is equally dense, seeing as that it suggests the NRA itself is responsible for mass shootings. But, that doesn’t even begin to address the elephant in the room.
Granted, the student is likely wearing a school shirt, but that doesn’t make the irony of her sign any less hilarious.
For those who haven’t caught on, the text on the student’s shirt reads “molan labe” — the famous Greek phrase uttered by King Leonidas when he and his 300 Spartan warriors faced off against an untold number of Persian invaders in classic antiquity. The phrase was said in response to a Persian request for the Spartans to lay down their weapons, and translates to “come and take it!”
Naturally, “molon labe” has been used as a slogan and de facto motto by Second Amendment advocates, adding yet another layer of irony.
