Last week, a Democratic politician was roasted up and down on Twitter after he suggested that the federal government would nuke its own citizens if there was some sort of civilian uprising.
Rep. Eric Swalwell said he was joking when he told a Twitter user that a confrontation between the American people and the government would be very “short” thanks to their arsenal, and he almost certainly was. The perplexing part is why he would feel comfortable making such a statement in the first place — threatening thermonuclear war is pretty radical.
More telling than any of this is the contrast between the attitudes Democrats espouse regarding President Donald Trump and the nuclear representative in question. Without question, the biggest complaint about Trump from the left is the president’s unpredictable behavior — something pundits contended would lead to international conflict. So far, that hasn’t happened, but they haven’t stopped levying that complaint. Apparently, concerns over nuclear war vanish when it’s a Democrat issuing threats.
