New Yorkers aren’t happy right now. And no — it’s not because their governor has basically legalized infanticide. They don’t seem to bothered by that. It’s because prices for food are going up anywhere, and there’s seemingly nothing that they can do about it.
Of course, this spike in the price of food follows the state’s decision to kick up the minimum wage. And, just like what happens every single time the minimum wage is increased, the rest of the economy adjusts to follow suit. Essentially, people living off of a minimum wage gained nothing.
You might be thinking to yourself that this is exactly what conservatives have been warning places like New York City, Seattle, and others about for over a decade. And you’re right. Progressive politicians didn’t care, however, because they have to give something to their base once they get elected.
In the state of New York, this apparently comes in the form of dead babies and poverty. What a lovely place to live…
