Democratic presidential candidates have been having a ball launching rhetorical bombs at each other as the primary season heats up, but at this point it’s unclear how a nominee is going to handle facing off against President Donald Trump directly.
Unlike the career politicians debating each other now, Trump doesn’t pull punches on anyone — regardless of political party, race, creed, sex, or anything else. The President is a non-stop counter-puncher, and he never lets up. Thankfully for the Democrats, they have an ingenious plan to ensure they survive the upcoming election season unscathed.
Okay, let’s be honest — they’ve been employing this tactic for years now. The sad part is that it typically works. In 2012, the Republican Party nominated the most unassuming candidate possible with Mitt Romney. The man has probably never cursed anyone out in his life, and doesn’t appear to have a edgy bone in his body. But, he brought up the possibility that Sesame Street doesn’t exactly need federal funding, so he became a vicious racist overnight. He also talked about how he went out of his way to hire more women when he worked in the private sector, so he became a sexist too for good measure.
They’ve been trying this same thing on Trump since the man took office, and all that’s happened is that his approval ratings have steadily climbed. We can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with next.
