Former Vice President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign relied on one particular feeling: nostalgia.
Just by being able to say he was part of the Obama Administration, Joe Biden’s appeal rests on the idea that he can end the chaotic nature of American politics, and bring things back to how they used to be. You remember those days, right? No drama whatsoever.
Well, the IRS was being used to target conservative charities, and the Department of Justice was supplying weapons to Mexican drug cartels, but no one really cared about that. Oh, and Iran was essentially given a pass (and a bunch of cash) to just put their nuclear weapon ambitions on hold, but no one cared about that either. In fact, it was celebrated as a brilliant foreign policy achievement.
The totally scandal-free Obama Administration: you can have it all back just by voting for a guy who pressured a foreign government to fire a prosecutor who just so happened to be investigating his own son.
The truth is that the Obama years were only normal for people who weren’t paying attention — because being hyper-focused on the news all the time was the only way to learn anything back then. If only the press was as active then as it is now…
