The political situation in Virginia is becoming more entertaining by the day as its Democratic governor continues trying his luck in weathering a public relations nightmare.
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, a Democrat, initially played it safe by apologizing for a high school yearbook photo showing him wearing blackface and standing next to someone else dressed as a Ku Klux Klan member. Almost immediately, he pivoted and denied that he was the person in the photo. Curiously, he did own up to wearing blackface — but only because he was dressing up as Michael Jackson for Halloween.
But, the drama didn’t end there — or even with the governor. Out of no where, old allegations of sexual assault by Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax resurfaced, with some suggesting the hit was put out by Northam himself to keep his own standing more secure.
It gets better.
The latest development came when Virginia’s attorney general admitted to wearing blackface once too. If this is truly Northam’s handiwork, his effort is borderline admirable.
Nothing captures the situation in Virginia better than the image you see here.
