This is Not How Exploitation Works

This image has become a hit around left-wing social media pages, and takes direct aim at one of the libertarian movement’s favorite phrases.

It’s not uncommon for fans of Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, or Austin Petersen to utter the words “taxation is theft” as a quick summation of their beliefs. The sentiment is often shared by conservatives, who tend to agree with libertarians on just about everything related to economics.

Using no empirical arguments to speak of, the content creator in question here suggests that taxes make up but a small fraction of your income, and an even smaller fraction of the so-called “value produced by your labor.”

This meme completely ignores the simple rules that makes the relationship between employee and employer possible. While workers do generate economic value through their labor, employers are charged with covering overhead costs. This not only includes paying the worker’s wages, but also maintaining the workspace.

Yet again, liberals prove they have no understanding of economics.
