International coffee giant Starbucks had a rough PR week after footage showing police escorting two black men out of one of their stores for refusing to purchase something or leave went viral.
To be extremely clear about what actually happened, the two men (who weren’t charged after the incident) were asked to leave by the store manager due to them failing to patronize the establishment. While it’s not exactly uncommon for people to simply show up at one of their stores and take advantage of the free Wifi, the employees in question were fully within their right to ask the two men to leave.
This incident should’ve ended right there. Instead, protestors flooded the Philadelphia location — taking their rage out on employees who had nothing to do with the situation.
It’s worth noting that Starbucks is one of the more vocally progressive corporations out there. Former CEO Howard Schultz even tried to implement a policy wherein his baristas would ask every single customer if they wanted to have a conversation about race relations. The idea failed horribly and was quickly scrapped, but it does underscore how far the company is willing to go to tout its leftist image.
Actions like this are why President Donald Trump sits in the White House. While race relations in America deteriorated under Obama, Trump appeared as a figure that was willing to punch back against such nonsense — to the point where traditional conservatives were more than willing to overlook his personal qualms and lend support.
