Let’s do a little thought experiment with this one: imagine that President Donald Trump’s Internal Revenue Service targeted and spied on political organizations that he didn’t like. For good measure, let’s also pretend that Attorney General Bill Barr green-lit an operation that effectively supplied Mexican drug cartels with military-grade weaponry.
How would CNN report on this? ABC? MSNBC? All the lefty sites like Vice and Huffpost? You know what they would do.
Reporters would be working around the clock to expose every detail of this horrible behavior. There would be constant interviews with experts of every stripe to discuss the political impact, and there would be riots in the streets which would also get constant coverage. In other words, you would see accidental examples of real journalism.
The thing is, those things actually happened under President Barack Obama, and the media largely downplayed or ignored it. Well, Fox News certainly made a spectacle out of it, and we don’t blame them for that. But the rest of the media — and we really do mean the rest of the traditional outlets out there — chose to look the other way.
Media bias is alive and well, and it isn’t going to change — until a Democrat becomes president, and the story completely flips again.
