The Left is Absolutely Clueless About Social Security

If you want to get a good idea of why principled conservatives took such a strong stance against Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, you need look no further than Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” program – specifically Social Security.

In essence, the only difference between a government hand-out and a perceived “right” is time.

Former President Johnson claimed that his Great Society programs like Social Security were supposed to wipe out poverty nation-wide within a generation. Instead, the programs exploded in cost, and benefits have since been scrapped.

The image here, shared by leftist Facebook page The Other 98%, assumes all of these problems would simply go away if we — you guessed it — spent more money on them.

“If millionaires paid into Social Security at the same rate as the rest of us, we could afford to protect and expand benefits,” the image caption reads.

It’s not that simple.

Millions of Americans have their checks axed every pay period to fund a program they might not even get to participate in, thanks to Social Security’s out of control spending.

A better option would be to allow Americans to choose whether or not they want to participate in the program at all, and opt-out of the tax.

Of course, this approach doesn’t benefit the government at all, so don’t count on leftists to take it seriously.
