The Best Gretchen Whitmer Joke We’ve Seen So Far

“Coronavirus?”

We really got a chuckle from this meme that popped up on Facebook last week. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has turned out to be one of the worst authoritarian loons during the coronavirus shutdowns, earning her the permanent nickname of “Governor Karen.”

Whitmer is such a mediocre governor that she has actually made the lockdowns worse for her citizens, by imposing arbitrary and weird restrictions to make people even more miserable. She also signed an executive order in March that forced nursing homes to take in sick coronavirus patients.

New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo is taking a lot of heat because of nursing home deaths right now – but Whitmer did the same thing in Michigan. That insane policy contributed to the roughly 3,000 nursing home deaths in Michigan.

This meme is hilarious because it really highlights something that a lot of us now suspect about Governor Karen. There’s no science behind a lot of the things she banned. She just really, really wanted to ban things because it gives her an authoritarian tingle and helps to fill up the emptiness at the core of her being. And hey, maybe it will pay off by scoring her a VP slot on the Biden train.
