Weeks ago, CNN White House Correspondent Jim Acosta get into a heated exchange with President Trump and refused to give up his microphone. After he appeared to shove off a young intern attempting to recover the microphone, the White House suspended his press pass. Liberals were outraged.
This was reported as an attack on the First Amendment, and a federal judge agreed. Apparently, Jim Acosta’s First Amendment freedoms were threatened by him no longer having special access to President Trump. We were told that banning one journalist is a threat to free speech. Now, wouldn’t it be great if liberals applied this same logic to the rest of the Constitution? That’s what Kaitlin Bennet is asking for in this tweet.
The fact is that the left has been calling for bans on certain firearms all year. While some are just focused on scary looking tactical weapons like the AR-15, others have suggested that all semi-automatic weapons should be removed from civilian hands. This covers the vast majority of legal firearms in circulation. It’s hard not to see that as an attack on the Second Amendment.
So, which is more important: Jim Acosta’s special press privileges, or one of the most fundamental rights we have as Americans? Mull that over for as long as you need to.
