Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg’s Senate hearing wasn’t the most important news of the week, but it was definitely the funniest.
With the young billionaire propped up on a booster seat before a bunch of aging lawmakers to answer a bunch of questions about the internet and technology, the stage was set for a meme gold mine. We were definitely not disappointed with the results.
While one could almost feel sympathy for Zuckerberg’s predicament, it’s important to remember how he got himself into this situation to begin with. It’s true that Facebook’s use is completely optional, but it’s equally true that the company isn’t exactly upfront about its privacy policies. Not everyone reads the fine print, and Zuckerberg definitely understands this.
That said, the two statements references here made up the bulk of his answers to Senators. At one point, the Facebook founder was asked if he was taking steps to address privacy concerns — a question Zuckerberg could have easily answered “yes” to. Despite that, he struggled in supplying a firm answer.
While we’re still not sure how this is going to end up for the world’s flagship social media enterprise, one thing is certain: this was the most entertaining Senate testimony in recent memory.
