John McCain’s Month-Long Funeral Comes to an End

If you’ve been asking yourself “when did everyone love John McCain so much?” — you’re not alone.

In 2008, When the Vietnam War hero turned Arizona senator ran against then-Senator Barack Obama for the presidency, mainstream media pundits wrote off McCain as just another “extremist” who wanted to roll back every social reform of the past century. In many ways, it was a precursor to how the media would treat former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney in 2012, and President Donald Trump today.

Apparently, we were supposed to forget about all of that when the Arizona senator was laid to rest in early September. News media broadcasts were laden with seemingly endless tributes to McCain — not for his honorable service to his country and the men he fought alongside during the Vietnam War, but for his militant opposition to President Trump.

Make no mistake, almost no one on the right side of the aisle would have been treated this way. McCain was suddenly a hero to the establishment liberals in the media because they saw him as an ally against Trumpian populism. This is why the process of laying him to rest felt like a month-long affair. Now that it’s over, it’s back to business as usual — where everyone to the right of Bernie Sanders is basically a Nazi.
