Venezuela: the leftist utopia the American left wants you to pretend doesn’t exist…
No, that isn’t an exaggeration. For almost two decades, the socialist government of Venezuela has been implementing virtually every leftist fantasy policy, and the results have been laid bare for all to see. The problem is that the oil-rich nation has been reduced to near third-world status in less than a generation, and the government there is only becoming more authoritarian in response.
The pair of BBC headlines seen here should really surprise no one. What other reason would a state have to disarm its citizenry? Sure, there are plenty of gun control supporters who truly believe such a policy would make their country safer, but we have demonstrable evidence that this isn’t true. All this really does is make the average citizen less capable of self-defense against the threat of tyranny.
It’s also worth noting that the Maduro government has nationalized industries, enacted massive redistributionist programs, and takes a hard stance against “evil corporations”. As a result, much of the populace relies on food rations, but even that has proven problematic.
