House Republicans just passed the Secure America Act on a 214-212 vote, fully funding ICE and Border Patrol through early 2029 and sending it straight to President Trump's desk. Every single Democrat voted no, because apparently securing the border is still a bridge too far for the party that spent years screaming "Abolish ICE" into megaphones.
Remember that? Remember when half the Democratic caucus thought dismantling immigration enforcement was a winning campaign slogan? Good times.
The bill locks in three full years of funding for Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, meaning Democrats won't get another crack at defunding these agencies during the 119th or 120th Congresses. Speaker Mike Johnson didn't mince words after the vote: "With today's vote, House and Senate Republicans have officially ended the third Democrat government shutdown of this Congress. And here's the end result of Democrats' record-setting obstruction: CBP and ICE will now be funded for the remainder of President Trump's term and Democrats will have no ability to defund these agencies in the 119th or 120th Congresses."
That's not a press release. That's a victory lap in cleats.
The vote fell perfectly along party lines — every Republican present voted yes, every Democrat voted no. The lone exception was Rep. Kevin Kiley of California, now an Independent, who voted against. Over in the Senate, Lisa Murkowski was the only Republican no vote.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries tried to reframe the whole thing as an attack on grandma's Social Security check, whining that Republicans were "cutting your Social Security and giving a $70 billion blank check to ICE." Seventy billion dollars to enforce immigration law. The horror.
Here's what Jeffries conveniently left out: Democrats shut down DHS funding from February through the end of April. They literally defunded the Department of Homeland Security for months and then had the nerve to complain about a "blank check" when Republicans cleaned up the mess. You can't make this stuff up.
The Secure America Act is part of the broader One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which has been the vehicle for Republican reconciliation priorities. Senator Mitch McConnell summed up the legislative reality bluntly: "I think it's safe to conclude there will not be another reconciliation bill." Senator Susan Collins agreed: "I agree with that assessment."
Translation: this is the last train leaving the station, and Republicans loaded it with everything that matters.
So the party that wanted to abolish ICE, defund the police, and open the borders just watched the House fund immigration enforcement for three years with zero Democratic input. President Trump gets to sign it. The border gets reinforced. And Democrats get to explain to their base why their grand "resistance" strategy produced absolutely nothing.
We told you elections have consequences. This is what consequences look like.
