A post on Fizz — the anonymous social media platform popular on college campuses — is calling Georgetown University students to Copley Lawn on September 10, 2026 for a Charlie Kirk "lookalike contest." September 10 is the anniversary of Kirk's assassination.
The post racked up over 2,200 upvotes.
The promotional message reads: "Pull up to Copley Lawn to speak the truth while the cost is high." If you're wondering whether that's a veiled reference to a man who was murdered for his political beliefs, the Turning Point USA chapter at Georgetown doesn't think there's much ambiguity. Chapter President Heidi Sui was horrified, "The TPUSA Chapter at Georgetown strongly condemns any events that aim to disrespect Charlie Kirk and the upcoming memorial ceremony at UVU."
Georgetown is a Catholic university. It enrolls roughly 6,000 undergraduates. The institution's own Jesuit tradition teaches respect for human dignity as a foundational principle. Apparently that tradition has a carve-out for conservative figures who were killed.
Fizz lets students organize something grotesque without attaching their names to it. That's the feature, not the bug — you can mock a political assassination and still apply for your summer internship at a D.C. think tank with a clean Google search. The 2,200 upvotes aren't anonymous outliers. That's a third of the undergraduate student body signaling approval.
A "lookalike contest" for a living public figure is juvenile. A "lookalike contest" for a public figure who was assassinated, scheduled on the anniversary of the assassination, promoted with language about "the cost" of speaking truth — that's a different category entirely. It doesn't take a Jesuit education to understand the difference, though it apparently takes more than one.
The event is set for Copley Lawn, directly in front of Healy Hall — Georgetown's most iconic building. Not hidden in some off-campus apartment. Center of campus. In the open. Which tells you everything about how confident these students are that the administration won't say a word.
Georgetown charges roughly $65,000 a year in tuition. For that sum, students get access to a world-class faculty, a prestigious alumni network, and a campus culture where turning a political murder into a social event earns two thousand anonymous thumbs-up before anyone in the administration's office notices.
Somewhere in that $65,000, there's supposed to be a formation of conscience. The receipt says Catholic education. The product says something else.
