In this gem of a tweet, feminist author and creative writing professor Alissa Nutting reveals everything wrong with America’s dental industry — there aren’t enough practitioners with the same type of reproductive organs as her.
The sheer ridiculousness of this tweet skyrocketed it to viral status within the day — although most of the Twitter users sharing it appeared to deeply sympathize with Nutting’s plight. Apparently this is the state of America’s cultural discourse…
A quick Google search reveals that women don’t have it terribly bad when it comes to the medical industry. According to the American Dental Association, roughly 30 percent of all dentists in the United States are female — a number that is expected to even out with future graduating classes.
As Nutting describes in the tweet, her daughter was dismayed during a trip to the dentist when she found out there was no female there to treat her. While the creative writing professor could have simply explained that men are by and large more often attracted to medical occupations, and that no legal barriers exist to barre her from taking up the same practice if she wanted to, she chose instead to take the opportunity to virtue signal on the internet.
