We learned an important lesson back in June of 2015 when Donald Trump walked down the golden escalator and entered the race for president: Powerful people hate it when we laugh at them for their failings. That’s the presuppositional argument behind most political memes, and why memes are so popular these days. They allow us to laugh at people who demand respect from us, even though those people are totally unworthy of our respect.
This meme of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Joe Biden caught us off-guard. We’re not laughing at all of the human misery that Lori Lightfoot has caused in Chicago by defunding the police and releasing violent criminals with a slap on the wrist.
But we are laughing at Lori Lightfoot because of her incompetence. Can you believe that 70 people were shot – 70! – in Chicago this past weekend alone? She is an incompetent buffoon, and she is so narcissistic and power-hungry that she really doesn’t care how many people she hurts through her incompetence.
