Democrats Are Literally Thanking Trump for Saving Washington, D.C. — And We Have the Receipts

Remember when Democrats said Donald Trump would be the end of Washington, D.C.? That his return to the White House would turn the nation’s capital into a ghost town? That federal workers would flee in droves and the city would collapse into some kind of dystopian wasteland ruled by MAGA hat-wearing barbarians?

Yeah, about that. Democrats are now on the record — ON THE RECORD — giving President Trump credit for revitalizing the entire city. You absolutely love to see it.

We need to pause here and let the sheer beauty of this moment wash over us. The same party that spent four years calling Trump a fascist dictator who would destroy American institutions is now publicly admitting that his administration has been the best thing to happen to D.C. since they built the Metro. (And honestly, the Metro still doesn’t work half the time, so Trump might have that beat too.)

D.C.’s economy is humming. Restaurants are packed. Hotels are booked. The energy in the city — according to Democrats themselves — is back in a way it hasn’t been in years. Turns out when you have a president who actually does things instead of napping in the residence until 10 a.m., the entire capital comes alive.

But here’s what makes this delicious.

These aren’t anonymous sources or reluctant off-the-record admissions. We’re talking about Democrat officials and D.C. power players stepping up to microphones and saying the quiet part out loud: Trump brought the energy back. Trump brought the money back. Trump brought the life back to Washington.

The Biden years turned D.C. into a mausoleum. Half the federal workforce was “working from home” — which, as we all know, is code for watching Netflix in sweatpants while collecting a six-figure taxpayer-funded salary. Downtown restaurants were closing. Office buildings sat empty. The city that’s supposed to be the beating heart of the most powerful nation on earth felt like a strip mall on a Tuesday afternoon.

Then Trump came back and — wouldn’t you know it — people actually had to show up to work again. DOGE started asking questions about who was doing what. Suddenly the bureaucrats who’d been hiding behind Zoom calls for three years had to put on pants and commute. And when people commute, they buy coffee. They eat lunch. They go to happy hour. They spend money.

Economics! It’s almost like having a functioning government that requires people to be physically present creates economic activity. Somebody get AOC on the phone — we need to explain this concept using small words and maybe a picture book.

The revitalization isn’t just about butts in office chairs, either. Trump’s administration has been a magnet for energy, media attention, and political engagement. Love him or hate him, when Trump is in the White House, Washington is the center of the universe. Every reporter, lobbyist, diplomat, and political operative in the country wants to be within a five-mile radius of the Oval Office.

Compare that to the Biden era, when the most exciting thing happening at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was Jill picking out new curtains while the leader of the free world argued with a teleprompter.

So here we are. Democrats praising Trump. For doing exactly what he said he’d do — making things better. The same people who impeached him twice, raided his home, tried to throw him in prison, and called him every name in the book are now standing in the revitalized streets of Washington, D.C., and admitting he was right.

We should get this framed. Actually, someone should embroider it on a pillow. “Democrats Thank Trump for Saving D.C.” Right next to the one that says “Live, Laugh, Love” — except this one is actually true.

The best part? Trump doesn’t need their thanks. He didn’t do it for them. He did it because that’s what happens when you elect someone who treats the presidency like a job instead of a retirement home.

But we’ll take the credit anyway. You’re welcome, D.C. You’re welcome, Democrats. And you’re welcome, America.
