Solar Eclipse Brings Blue-City To A Halt

Due to the approaching solar eclipse, some school districts in New York will allow students to leave early on Monday or remain at home entirely.

We are postponing classes so children can enjoy the historic eclipse and avoid any potential safety risks. The eclipse will occur in 29 of the 62 counties in the state, falling inside the path of totality, when the moon will fully obscure the sun.

According to the New York Post, the third-largest public school system in the state, located in the city of Buffalo, has instructed both teachers and students to skip class in order to witness the solar event, which is expected to peak around 3:18 p.m.

The city will be completely dark when pupils are usually boarding school buses to go home.

According to WGRZ, the majority of the neighboring districts have likewise declared early releases or closures.

District officials have stated that they wish to prevent accidents and liabilities in addition to providing children and employees with a lovely day off to witness the final total solar eclipse that will be visible from the United States until 2044.

A former state instructor told the Post that “another generally unacknowledged consideration is that schools wish to avoid the risk of having pupils sustain eyesight impairment by looking at the celestial event without protective glasses on school premises.”

Due to a possible eye injury, the Syracuse City School District has decided to postpone Monday’s sessions.

“The District is recommending a modification to the calendar, given the scheduling of the event and the possible safety dangers it might provide to students and staff,” the district stated in a statement that WSTM was able to receive.

Speakingswoman Amanda Hull stated, “The biggest safety issue is just basically making sure that you are not gazing at the sun when that eclipse is happening.” “We definitely do not want any of our staff members or kids to suffer serious eye damage from it.”

To allay such worries, Johnsburg Central Schools is releasing children early, at 12:30 p.m., and providing them with complimentary safety eyewear.

In addition, as visitors swarm to hotspots in the Adirondack Mountains in search of a clear view of the eclipse, the state is bracing for severe traffic bottlenecks.

“I must tell you the truth. Rick Datolla, the town supervisor of Tupper Lake, told the Adirondack Explorer, “I am afraid as hell.”

While most of the state’s main school systems have taken action, New York City Public Schools, the largest, have not, according to the Post, citing “concerns from parents.”
