Kevin Stitt, the governor of Oklahoma, sent 50 National Guard soldiers to the Texas southern border to assist Operation Lone Star. The Guard members will deploy to the Texas-Mexico border alongside other troops and pilots from 12 different states.
According to KOSO NPR, Oklahoma Gov. Stitt sent 50 troops from the Oklahoma National Guard to South Texas to assist with the Operation Lone Star border security operations in response to a request for help from Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Gov. Stitt joined the additional 12 Republican governors who had sent out state law enforcement officials or National Guard units in response to Abbott’s request.

Gov. Jim Justice, WV
The collective governors stated in a written statement that “every state is considered a border state and that Republican governors – together – have stepped up to protect the American people where Biden has failed.”
“By deploying our courageous National Guard Troops, we are sending a powerful message that we remain committed to defending our country’s borders and upholding law and order of our country,” stated Governor Stitt in his announcement of their deployment.
The troops from Oklahoma will act as a “force multiplier,” the Guard officers stated. Along the border, they won’t be carrying out any law enforcement activities. According to LeeAnn Tumblson, a deputy public affairs officer with the Oklahoma Nation Guard, “it is going to be the local law enforcement agencies that will be responsible for investigating and then, if required, detaining those individuals if they are involved in illegal activities.”
