When we talk about feminism here, it’s usually to point out something cringe-worthy. But feminism wasn’t always like that.
The women who demanded political and social equality at the turn of the century truly were, to use a modern phrase, “stunning and brave.” Times really were changing, and a growing majority began to feel that women were an important part of that. All the suffragists seemingly wanted was to enjoy the same rights and legal protections as men. Through determination and unwavering commitment to their cause, they got exactly what they asked for.
This isn’t to say that the world suddenly became a better place after a few pieces of legislation were penned in the early 1900s. It took plenty of time for the culture to adjust to the new norm. But this is a constant in history, and we have to accept it.
The movements that followed weren’t as stunning or as brave. After they became co-opted by Cultural Marxists, they were never the same. This image is a great representation of this.
