President Biden’s beach house in Rehoboth, Delaware, is being searched by the FBI as part of the Justice Department’s (DOJ) inquiry into Biden’s mishandling of confidential materials, Biden’s lawyer said on Wednesday.
Since November 2, when Biden’s attorneys claim they first uncovered classified materials from Biden’s tenure as VP, there have been three searches.
According to the first report from CBS on Wednesday morning, the search was carried out without the use of a warrant and in consultation with Biden’s counsel.
Shortly after the publication reported on the FBI action, Biden’s lawyer Bob Bauer issued a statement confirming the information. He noted that the activity was planned and that the DOJ’s “normal procedures” included carrying out the search without first telling the public.
“Today, the DOJ is carrying out a preplanned search of the President’s house in Rehoboth, Delaware, with his full approval and cooperation. The DOJ intended to carry out this without providing prior public notice in accordance with regular operating protocols for operational security and integrity, and we agreed to participate,” Bauer said.
The FBI carried out a search at the Penn Biden Center, a think tank in Washington, D.C., in mid-Nov.; it was there that the first documents with secret markings were located. The White House, Bauer, or the DOJ did not make the search public before CBS broke the story on Tuesday.
On January 20, a second search was carried out at Biden’s house in Delaware. The day after the search, Bauer made an announcement about it and said that numerous further documents with secret markings had been found.
According to Bauer on Wednesday, “the search today is another step in a comprehensive DOJ process we will keep supporting. We will get more information after the search for today is over.”
