Prior to the New York Post’s publication of the story of the Hunter Biden laptop, the FBI contacted the social media firm and urged them to crack down on supposed “Russian propaganda,” according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who made the revelation on “The Joe Rogan Experience” on Thursday.
When questioned by host Joe Rogan how Facebook addressed major news stories that were contentious, such as the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, Zuckerberg made the comments.
The FBI, I believe, just approached us and some members of our team and said, “Hey, so that you know, like, you need to be on high alert. We believed that there was a significant amount of Russian misinformation during the 2016 election. We have noticed that, in essence, some sort of dump comparable to that is about to occur. So simply be careful,” added Zuckerberg.
“Consequently, our protocol differs from Twitter. Twitter acted by stating that you are not permitted to share this at all. We didn’t do that,” said Zuckerberg. “Because we don’t want to be the ones to decide what is real and untrue, “what we do is we have, if something was reported to us as possibly misinformation, significant misinformation, we have a third-party fact-checking tool. And although the distribution on Facebook was reduced throughout the — I believe it was either five or seven days that it was essentially being decided whether it was untrue, people were still permitted to post it. Therefore, you might still share it and devour it.”
According to Zuckerberg, because of the platform’s restricted distribution, “fewer people saw this than would have normally” because the story was ranked lower in everyone’s newsfeeds.
According to Zuckerberg, the story’s downgrading had a “significant” effect on how many individuals saw it.
So, he said, “depending on whatever side of the political spectrum you’re on, you either think we filtered it too much or not enough. However, we weren’t quite as binary about it as Twitter was. We just kind of reasoned, Hey, look, if the FBI, which I still see as a respectable agency in this nation, comes to us and tells us that we should be on alert about something, then I’m going to take that very seriously. The FBI is like extremely competent law enforcement.”
Zuckerberg stated that it “essentially fit the pattern,” but he was unable to recollect the specifics of what the FBI had said or whether it related to that particular piece.
So, the FBI is still using the Russia bogeyman to distract from all the Chinese misinformation the Dems and their ‘media’ are disseminating daily?
