Washington, DC, a city with strict gun laws and a Democratic majority, is currently experiencing a spike in homicides that might make this the bloodiest year there in 20 years.
The city’s total murders for this year are at 161, which is “a 28% increase over the same period in 2022,” according to the Washington Post. Three homicides occurred over the past two days.
Jamila White, who serves as head of the advisory neighborhood commission for the neighborhood where the most recent three killings took place, alleges that municipal authorities are not heeding the panel’s recommendations for how to improve the situation.
“Our voices and the solutions we offer are not being heard,” White remarked. “The neighborhood has made its best efforts. The neighborhood is in survival mode.”
The DCist stated on August 2 that Biden appointee and U.S. Attorney for D.C. Matthew Graves informed city residents that his office is collaborating with the police to narrow the investigation to a select few suspects who they believe to be responsible for the murders and mayhem.
The source cited “a 2022 research that concluded that as few as 500 identified individuals, many of them are active in local gangs or cliques, are responsible for 70% of the city’s shootings.” The people Graves is concentrating on are part of that limited group.
Giffords, the gun control organization founded by Gabby Giffords, notes that numerous gun restrictions are in place in Washington, DC, including universal background checks, licenses for gun owners, red flag laws, bans on “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines, registration of firearms, waiting periods before purchasing firearms, storage regulations, and many others.
Shootings in California have not been stopped by the same regulations.
Gun control is simply a way to control a free people and make America a communist country! Or founding fathers put in the constitution or right to bear arms so that we could stand against a tyrannical government part of or checks and balances This government wants total control of the American people, they are trying to tell s hat to drive what to eat what we can buy and where we can go. America must WAKE UP!

Missing in the article is what proposals the citizens committee are making. They may be solid proposals, hysterical nonsense, or anything between. No way to tell.
Gun control simply does not work. Facts prove that. Law abiding citizens are not the people doing the crimes. Yet that is who the dems are going after with their gun control. The dems want ” people ” control & the law abiding citizens with guns stand in their way of overthrowing America. If the dems were truly concerned about gun control the would prosecute the criminals who used guns in a crime. Instead in the name of social justice they let them walk free. Solving nothing for public safety & knowing the people they let go will create more crimes where the dems can whine about more gun control

Long prison sentences and long I mean years in prison no more slap on the wrists, these criminals need long prison stays no plea deals this is the ONLY way to cut down on gun violence. A gun free zone such as a School is an easy target, criminals will always be criminals and they don’t obey the laws law abiding citizens do, so more gun laws, are simply a waste of time. No live have been saved by the Laws put in place if a person really wants to kill someone, they will find a way, they don’t need guns to do it. Maybe invest in Mental Health instead of taking away the freedoms from law abiding citizens?
This is what is happening in ALL Democrat run cities. Punish the ‘everyday citizen’ because they make LAWS that do not affect the criminal elements. Quit the ‘defunding’ and carry one like you are supposed to.
Well Giffords, your claim that creating more and more gun control laws is the answer to cutting back and/or stopping crime. What a laughable joke you are! It has prevented anything. In fact, it’s increased in that area hasn’t it! I believe your goal isn’t to stop gun crime with anti-gun laws. You want to eliminate our Second Amendment right (as you let it slip out in a rally in Michigan). You are manipulative liars scamming the weak minded into believing you are for the good of life when in fact, you want to make us completely vulnerable to a abusive, tyrannical government and to the criminals.
