Democrats in Massachusetts’ legislature want to allow foreigners with green cards to cast ballots in local elections.
Foreign residents residing in the state with green cards would be granted the ability to vote in local elections under a number of measures introduced by Democrats in the Massachusetts House and Senate.
Foreign citizens would be able to cast decisive votes under the policy for the mayor, school committee, board of selectmen, city council, select board elections, school committee referendums, local ballot referendums, town council, or other municipal races in Massachusetts cities and towns.
Democratic lawmakers like James Eldridge, Samantha Montano, and Mike Connolly are the primary sponsors of the proposals, all of which must appear before House and Senate committees on election rules.
“In our communities, immigrants are vital.” During a hearing on the bills last month, a representative of the organization MassVOTE told lawmakers that “many people are close to becoming citizens but are unable to apply. Despite this, they should have a voice in how public services are financed and run.”
Democratic lawmakers in other parts of New England, especially Connecticut and Rhode Island, have fought valiantly to pass legislation this year that would offer both legal and illegal immigrants the right to vote.
WHAT!! The Right to VOTE!! It is in the Constitution, and it is spelled out who can vote. The states have no right to change it. Then states could change the right to free speech, the right to have a gun, who can run for President and etc… THE STATE CAN NOT let anyone vote, but what the Constitution says who can vote.
