Following a carjacking incident this week, Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX) stated that Washington, D.C. is around “two to three” times more hazardous than his border district in south Texas.
On Fox News this week, Cuellar talked about how bad he thought physical crime was in the nation’s capital. In addition to losing his car, Cuellar also lost his cell phone, iPad, and sushi supper during the armed carjacking incident. Cuellar wasn’t hurt, and the cops later found his car and other things, but not the sushi.
“Whenever I discuss the border, I always mention that there is an immigration issue there. However, I would add that the number of rapes, murders, and assaults near the border, say in Laredo, Texas, support my previous assertion that Washington is roughly two or three times more hazardous, which is really the case right now,” Cuellar stated in an interview with Fox News anchor Jesse Watters.
Cuellar then talked about how he supported the police. If you asked Cuellar about Democratic Party members who attack police, he would only say what he thought.
“I believe that many Democrats do back the police. There may be some who disagree with me. “I can say what I think: I don’t think the police should lose their funding,” he said. “I voted in opposition to what the Council of Washington, D.C., did to make penalties less harsh. I believe that is not the right way to go. I was one of 30 Democrats who said that they didn’t think cutting the consequences would make crime go down. You should make the punishment worse.”
The Texas Democrat made light of his terrifying ordeal by joking that the actual reason he was “pissed off” was because they had taken his food. Furthermore, he said that he holds a black belt in karate. However, he chose to remain “calm” and allow the “punks” to take the car.
“There were three people. When I looked to my left, I saw someone pointing a gun at me. When I looked to the right, someone was there. Someone else was behind me. Even though I have a black belt in karate, I quickly thought about what was going on. You need to stay cool because it appeared to be three young people, and I told them to just take the car. They found the car as well as my phone and gave it back to me in about an hour and a half,” he said.
So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the event.
