Marvel is back at it again—this time with Captain America himself disowning America. Anthony Mackie, the star of Captain America: Brave New World, recently dropped a hot take that left fans scratching their heads: Captain America, apparently, shouldn’t represent America at all.
In a recent interview, Mackie went full woke, claiming:
“For me, Captain America represents a lot of different things, and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations.”
Excuse me? You’re telling us that Captain America—a character literally wrapped in red, white, and blue—shouldn’t represent the country he’s named after? That’s like saying Superman shouldn’t stand for truth and justice. But hey, we all know Hollywood loves nothing more than to dunk on the very nation that made it rich.
Patriots Aren’t Buying It
Mackie insists that Captain America should represent values like “honor, dignity, and integrity.” Funny, because last time we checked, those are exactly the values that America was built on. But apparently, saying the quiet part out loud—that America is a force for good—is a little too much for today’s Hollywood elites.
Naturally, this didn’t sit well with actual Americans. Conservative commentator Dan Bongino ripped into the movie, calling it “another s* movie I won’t be seeing.”** And Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) wasn’t having it either, reminding Americans that Disney’s latest anti-American nonsense is not for us.
Marvel’s Box Office in Freefall?
Captain America: Brave New World is set to drop on Valentine’s Day weekend, but let’s be honest—this might just be another Marvel flop. The film is projected to make $95 million over the four-day weekend. Not bad, until you realize that Black Panther pulled in a massive $242 million over the same stretch in 2018, and even Ant-Man and the Wasp—a franchise with far less fanfare—scored $120 million last year.
It seems Marvel hasn’t learned that audiences don’t want woke, America-hating superheroes. They want patriots, not self-loathing propaganda.
Bottom Line: Keep America in Captain America
If Disney and Marvel think they can keep watering down American heroes and expect Americans to keep watching, they’re in for a rude awakening. Maybe the next time Hollywood rewrites a beloved character, they should try respecting the country that made them famous in the first place.
