Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) stated that the top FBI officer should be compelled to appear before the Senate in light of the bombshell whistleblower claims regarding Hunter Biden.
According to whistleblower claims made to Grassley, FBI Assistant Special Agent Timothy Thibault, who departed the agency last month, closed a line of inquiry into the now-Pres. Joe Biden’s son in Oct. 2020 despite some of the data being known to be accurate at the time. The senator claimed that as a result, the FBI and Justice Dept. investigation into Hunter Biden may now be hampered.
“FBI officials sought to act on this distinct investigation material about Hunter Biden that it had in its possession. However, Thibault prevented the FBI from carrying out its usual duties,” according to Grassley’s remarks on the Senate floor. “As a result, the investigation and information could not go as they should have, which implies the FBI could have obtained additional proof regarding Hunter Biden but chose to cut bait. Additionally, just prior to the 2020 presidential election, the FBI and Thibault trimmed their losses.”
Through his attorneys, Thibault issued a statement last month in which he claimed that he “was not fired, was not forced to retire, and was not asked to retire.”
According to Thibault’s lawyers, “there have also been claims that Mr. Thibault engaged in various investigative activities for partisan political purposes.” Mr. Thibault, regardless of his retirement, welcomes any inquiries into these unfounded claims. He is adamant that any review will find that no political bias or partisanship of any type affected his leadership, supervision, or decision-making.
To further clarify the situation, Thibault’s attorney stated: “As verified by the Head of the FBI on August 4, 2022, the Hunter Biden probe is being handled by the Baltimore Field Office. Mr. Thibault did not manage that investigation. In particular, Mr. Thibault did not seek to end the investigation and was not engaged in any decisions about any laptop that would be at question in that probe.”
Thibault was not implicated in the laptop portion of the Hunter Biden controversy, according to Grassley’s whistleblower disclosures.

As Grassley noted in his speech last week, Thibault “didn’t address the shutting off of investigative activities and channels of information connected to Hunter Biden and didn’t even address his steps to try and inappropriately designate investigative closures so that they couldn’t be reopened in the future.”
Thibault “didn’t address the suspected illegality within the information submitted to the FBI concerning Hunter Biden,” according to Grassley, who also made this observation.
According to Grassley, Thibault stated that he “welcomes any probe” into the accusations made against him. “All right, Mr. Thibault, please come in. Join me and my colleagues for a transcribed interview.”
