On “CNN Tonight” on Tuesday, President Joe Biden promised to reauthorize the assault weapons prohibition before he leaves office.
“Democratic voters support the work you’re doing,” according to anchor Jake Tapper. “Most Democratic voters think highly of you. However, a survey reveals that nearly two-thirds of Democratic voters favor a different contender in 2024, with your age cited as the main justification. What would you like to say to Democrats who support you and appreciate the work you’ve accomplished but are worried about your age and the rigors of the position?”
“They’re worried about whether or not I can accomplish anything,” Biden stated. “Who among the recent presidents has accomplished as much in the first two years as I have? No joke. The vast majority of Americans approve of the work I completed. Therefore, the question is, “Can you do the job?” And my belief is that I can. I was able to complete the task. I completed more. I was able to pass all of these laws. On that, I ran. I promised to do this, and I’m still following through. Dealing with, you know, ensuring that the veterans receive compensation for the burn pits, and ensuring that we are in a position where we can finally take action on guns. By the way, before this is finished, I’m going to get an assault weapons prohibition. It’s not a joke; I’ll get that again.”
