Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) was the target of a resolution presented by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) that calls for a $16 million punishment for Schiff’s “egregious betrayal of the trust of the American people” in relation to his claims of conspiracy between former President Trump and Russia during the 2016 election.
Rep. Luna issued a statement saying, “It is the duty of House Leadership to support this resolution for the American people and make this feckless man accountable. House Leaders should support this privileged resolution in order to restore the House of Representatives’ reputation for accountability along with respect. The same standard must be applied to ALL members of Congress.”
With regard to the federal investigation into the supposed Trump-Russia connection, which has been refuted by special counsels Robert Mueller and John Durham’s findings, the proposed punishment equals almost half of the taxpayers’ expense.
Last week, Durham was quoted by Breitbart as having cleared Donald Trump of all allegations of Russian connection and confirming that the FBI had spied on him. According to Schiff, the evidence linking President Trump to the alleged Russian hoax wasn’t circumstantial as of 2017.
The resolution emphasizes Schiff’s position as the head of the HPSCI, which gives him access to confidential material that is not accessible to other members. Schiff was able to “initiate a falsely based investigation, which he then utilized to amass political advantage and fundraising money” because of his position in this.
