Rep Adam Schiff (D-CA) indicated on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that he would have to assess the legitimacy of the subpoena and the House Republicans’ request before cooperating with it.
“The new oversight chair, James Comer, said to Punchbowl Media during an interview, ‘I don’t think federal investigations really have a whole lot of credibility currently,” said anchor Dana Bash. “I blame Adam Schiff for this, but both parties are responsible for previous investigations. That is something I want to alter.’ What is your reaction?”
“Comer does not believe in the Russian collusion, the Ukraine investigation, or the January 6th inquiry,” Schiff stated. “Why? Because they are investigations of Donald Trump’s serial misuse of power. Comer, Jordan, and McCarthy will only carry Donald Trump’s bag. Someone who is having dinner with anti-Semites, who is having dinner with bigots who will not criticize them. This is who they’re banding together with. They will carry out and say what is required.”
“We’re out of time,” Bash remarked, “but I have a question. Will you comply if Republicans subpoena you when they take over?”
“We’ll have to assess the legitimacy of the subpoena,” Schiff added. I would absolutely consider it my responsibility, as well as the administration’s, to follow the law, and the reality that they have disregarded the law is not a precedence I would expect to see widely followed. We’ll have to examine the legitimacy or lack thereof of what they do.”
