Fantasy is a tool of domestication. It was invented when ancient philosophers of the hidden sun told their tribesmen that if they didn’t do as they said the eclipse would not pass. I don’t know what happened to the ones whose tribes didn’t obey, but they are probably not the ancestors of today’s so-called elite.
The technique was refined in the Roman Colosseum, coupled with cheap snack food. It was upgraded with theater, enhanced again with Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, and later put on overdrive with television, sports, video games, and the webinets.
All of these things are designed and operated with the single intent of getting your hands off the world, off of real physical resources that your would-be owners believe they have a divine right to. Imagine the perfect blindfold. The perfect blindfold would be one the wearer would choose to wear. Better still, it would be one that seems like a portal into another world.
