President Donald Trump has certainly got into trouble with the mainstream media over his tweets before. In fact, it seems to happen at least once a week. But, the President’s latest brush up — this time with the four Democrats of the Apocalypse — garnered a uniquely fiery response from, well, just about everyone.
Earlier this week, Trump suggested that four unnamed Democratic congresswomen, which presumably included Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Pressley (better known as “The Squad”) should go “back to their own countries” since they appear to hate the United States so much. All but Omar were born in the United States, but the implication was more or less clear — if you don’t like America, you don’t have to live here.
The series of tweets was met with a firestorm reaction — and not entirely without good reason. But that wasn’t the end of the exchange. While pundits in the media were losing their minds, the Democratic Party reacted by defending the worst of their ranks. Ilhan Omar refused to denounce Al Qaeda. Democratic leaders are basically defending socialism. And now, the American people see the Democratic Party for what it is.
We’re not going to defend the initial tweets in question, but one thing is clear — if this was just bait for the media, they fell for it pretty hard.
