In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, former President Trump, currently leading the GOP race for the 2024 presidency, made a bold claim that Deputy AG Lisa Monaco is the real power behind the DOJ, not AG Merrick Garland. Trump asserted that Monaco operates the DOJ “rather viciously and rather illegally,” a situation he predicts will be exposed in the next year and a half.
Trump linked Monaco to Andrew Weissman, a former FBI general counsel and top official in Robert Mueller’s investigation into Donald Trump. “Weissman is her boss,” Trump said, accusing him of suffering from “major Trump Derangement Syndrome” and relentlessly pursuing Trump for years without success.
Monaco’s history in the Obama White House, particularly her closeness with Susan Rice, Obama’s national security adviser and later Biden White House domestic policy adviser, was highlighted by Trump. Garland, whose nomination as Supreme Court justice was blocked by Senate Republicans before the 2016 election, later became Biden’s attorney general. As the 2024 presidential campaign heats up, the scrutiny of Monaco’s influence within the DOJ and Garland’s leadership role are likely to intensify, especially if Trump secures the GOP nomination.
