According to data released on Monday, the FBI conducted 192,749 National Instant Criminal Background Checking System (NICS) background screenings on Black Friday 2022.
According to the Nat’l Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the 192,749 NICS screenings on Black Friday 2022 “place third in the Top 10 Highest Days of NICS screenings and…represent a 2.8% increase over Black Friday 2021.”
According to Breitbart News, the FBI performed 187,585 NICS screenings on Black Friday 2021 and 186,645 screenings on Black Friday 2020.
The NSSF reported 711,372 NICS checks “throughout the week preceding and it included Black Friday.”
The high Black Friday NICS screening statistics follow recent increases in gun sales.
For example, Breitbart News claimed on October 6, 2022, that shops have sold over one million weapons each month for 38 straight months.
The NSSF director for public affairs, Mark Oliva, has spoken to Breitbart News about firearms sales, noting the “38 consecutive months that background checks for gun sales surpassed 1 million,” adding, “That really is an impressive sustained trend and illustrates that the firearm sector is meeting this ongoing rising demand for firearm ownership.”
