New DOD Report Shows Why America Is Not Ready For War

According to a Defense Department analysis published earlier in March, the vast majority of Americans between the ages of 17 and 24 are unfit to serve in the military.

The Defense Dept. report noted that 77% of Americans in the cited age bracket lack the physical requirements to join the armed forces, alluding to a congressional hearing on February 16. This is an increase of 6% from 2017.

Obesity is one of the variables that contribute to the alarmingly high rate of young Americans who are unsuitable for military service. The obesity rate was over 42% in 2020.

An Army General stated in Sept. 2022 that young people have a number of traits that prevent them from serving in the military.

Lieutenant General Xavier Brunson told The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington, “Some of the obstacles we are having are obesity, pre-existing medical disorders, mental health problems, criminality, felonies, and drug usage.”

It is a “condition,” according to Brunson, who also noted that “this isn’t a Army problem and that what we have to look at nationally is what’s happening with our young people.”

The general’s remarks were in reaction to the difficulties the US military has had in meeting its recruitment targets for recruits in 2022. This recruitment issue has affected all US military branches, including the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Navy. Given this issue, some American policymakers have identified obesity as a danger to national security.

Irina Tsukerman told The Epoch Times that “each year, over $60 million goes into replacing the 1,200+ first-term military members discharged for being overweight.”

In addition to “falling intellect and education levels,” she continued, increasing obesity rates have drastically reduced the recruiting pool. She thinks that these elements, in addition to the military’s decreased flexibility and resiliency, have rendered it less equipped to handle “asymmetrical or conventional problems.”

The CDC also identified the obesity epidemic in America as a security hazard. Around 20% of children and 40% of US adults are obese today, according to the CDC.

Also, according to the CDC, 16% more active-duty service members were obese in 2020 than they were in 2015, at 19%.

The US military is changing its physical fitness criteria for a number of jobs in response to the growing obesity problem, particularly for technical roles that do not require applicants to be physically fit.

Tsukerman cautioned that removing physical restrictions inside the US military would still set dangerous precedents.

“While it’s true that technological advancements like the employment of UAVs and AI have partially replaced human participation in the field,” she insisted “that most fighting still relies heavily on traditional human performance. Thus, the intelligence, situational awareness, and agility of human forces directly affect national security.”

In fact, if the US lowers its military recruitment criteria, it will field weaker military units that are unable to protect the nation, particularly at a time when a significant Zerg Rush is occurring at the border.

The obesity issue in America is a symptom of a larger trend of societal decadence, where people are encouraged to indulge in self-destructive behaviors to the cost of their mental and physical health in a permissive society that no longer emphasizes discipline. Also, the federal government ensures that people follow the unavoidable path of obesity through subsidies and dietary recommendations.

If the US wishes to preserve any semblance of civilizational coherence, it must start over on all fronts, from politics to lifestyle.

  1. How can we be ready for anything since Pedo Joe left 80 billion dollars of our weapons for the Taliban? We still have Americans there that he also left
    Stranded and abandoned.

  2. Oh bull! If it come down to a war. It best you go straight to the youth prison and those in adults prison. Put them on the front line, since they are already criminal! Then draft all college ages boys and girls. Place them next in line after the front line. Before putting those that serve the country in a war! These are Biden babies! They belong on the front lines! So they call see what it like getting shot at!

  3. Well it seems as if the people that wanted Biden got exactly what they wanted. A man hell bent on getting us in another war we should keep our nose out of. All you have to do is look around and all you see are fat kids. All they want to do is set on their fat rumps and play vidio games. The parents do not have the good sense to make their kids go outside and play a sport. There has to be a law made to prevent some of the violent war game videos outlawed. I live outside Macon, Ga. and it is in the papers week in and week out the teenage black kids are killing each other. We all used to fight each other but it was with our fists not a gun. Then again we did not have set on our butts games that are violent in nature to dissentious our young people. This black on black killing has got to stop. Black lives do matter as do all lives matter I could care less what color a persons skin turns out to be.

  4. I hope that photo of those Marines is photoshopped. During my 20 years in the Corps, the only “fat body” I ever saw was in boot camp and those guys were sent to the “fat body platoon,” and put on salad meals! That “Marine(?)” at the front of that photo could not possibly pass the PFT (Physical Fitness Test) that was REQUIRED in my time. That test included a 3 mile run that you had to finish in at least 30 minutes to pass. If ANY of the physical requirements of old have been downgraded to retain more ‘fat bodies,’ or others with infirmities, China is guaranteed to EAT US FOR LUNCH!
