The 30-day restriction on concealed carry issued by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) will not be enforced, as stated this week by Bernalillo County DA Sam Bregman.
The ban was announced by Grisham on Friday and went into force on Saturday. The ban makes it illegal to carry a handgun in public, whether it’s out in the open or hidden. This includes cities in Bernalillo County, such as Albuquerque.
Legal concealed carriers are covered under Grisham’s ban.
According to the Associated Press, D.A. Bregman spoke out against the ban this week, emphasizing that he isn’t going to enforce it: “As an official of the court, I will not and can not enforce anything that is manifestly unconstitutional.”
He also said, “This office will keep focusing on criminals of any age who use guns to do wrong.”
Breitbart News said that New Mexico state representative John Block (R), in response to Grisham’s order, called for the governor to be removed from office on X: “Impeach Lujan Grisham and get rid of him. Even Elon supports us on this!”
The AP also said that Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina made it clear that he would not follow the governor’s order.
The National Association for Gun Rights has already filed a lawsuit in a U.S. District Court located in New Mexico, challenging Grisham’s decision in court.
