The COVID-19 pandemic, according to President Joe Biden, is “over.”
But it hasn’t stopped his administration from requesting that Congress authorize well over $20 billion in new financing for pandemic-related initiatives.
What specifics are there?
The White House is requesting $22.4 billion from Congress “to handle urgent short-term domestic needs” related to the epidemic.
This funding will promote research, accelerate the “development of next-generation vaccines and therapies,” assist the United States in preparing for COVID-19 variations in the future, and aid the worldwide pandemic response. With the exception of testing, it’s unclear how any of those claimed demands fall under the White House’s definition of “urgent short-term domestic” objectives.
The White House stated in a release that “Our COVID-19 response activities continue to require additional money.”
Without congressional action, the announcement said, “we would be forced to make painful trade-offs and withdraw existing funds from important efforts to meet the most immediate needs. In March, we recommended that Congress approve supplementary COVID-19 funding,” it said. “That is exactly what has happened.”
In Washington, a proposal is made when lawmakers are negotiating a stopgap budget measure to avoid a partial govt shutdown when the fiscal year ends on Sept 30.
Republicans are rightfully capitalizing on the apparent double standard and highlighting how Biden’s words conflicts with his policies, as the Washington Post noted.
For instance, the supposed national emergency brought on by the epidemic serves as the legal reason for eliminating $10,000 of student loan debt per borrower. In the meanwhile, Biden officials have claimed that since the pandemic is a thing of the past, immigrants must no longer be deported from the United States under Title 42.
What is said by the WH?
After Biden’s “60 Minutes” interview, administration officials were summoned in for cleanup duties this week.
For instance, a government representative informed CNN that the official position of the United States government has not altered and that a national emergency regarding the epidemic will be continued in Oct.
this man has his head up his a.ss….. 20 billion huh maybe he should and hunter could cover that!!!
We the People demand that sorry SOB and his entire cabinet get out of Washington! This whole Presidency has been another hoax. Biden took the oath of office making all these fantastic promises about uniting the country and about everything except the moon, and it’s all been a crock of BS. The only thing Biden does well is lie, and that’s the last thing this country needs.
