Nine scientists. Nine people with direct ties to America’s most guarded space and defense secrets. Dead or vanished. And somehow, we’re all supposed to shrug and call it a coincidence.
Let me walk you through the latest name on a list that nobody in Washington wants to talk about.
Michael David Hicks spent decades as a research scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory — the crown jewel of America’s space program. The man published over 80 scientific papers. He worked on the DART Project, NASA’s test to see if humans could literally knock an asteroid off course. He helped fly a spacecraft past a comet in 2001 on the Deep Space 1 Mission. This wasn’t some guy fetching coffee at mission control. Hicks was deep in it.
He died on July 30, 2023. He was 59.
And here’s where it gets stupid — nearly three years later, nobody can tell you how he died. No cause of death publicly disclosed. No record of an autopsy. Nothing. A man who spent his career inside one of the most surveilled, security-cleared facilities on planet Earth just… died. And the official response has been a shrug so aggressive it should count as cardio.
The List That Keeps Growing
Hicks isn’t alone. He’s not even close to alone. Three of the nine scientists on this grim roster had direct ties to JPL — the same building, the same missions, the same classified work.
Monica Reza, JPL’s new Director of the Materials Processing Group, vanished without a trace in June 2025. Just months into her new role. Gone.
Frank Maiwald, a longtime JPL coworker of Hicks, died in July 2024 at 61. Even less public acknowledgment than Hicks got — which is saying something, because Hicks got almost none.
Astrophysicist Carl Grillmair, 67, whose work was heavily supported by NASA’s JPL and who was personally involved with major space telescope missions? Murdered on the front porch of his home on February 16, 2026. His front porch. Let that sink in.
MIT plasma physicist Nuno Loureiro was assinated at his home while working on revolutionary nuclear fusion breakthroughs. The kind of breakthroughs that would reshape global power — literally and figuratively.
Over at Los Alamos National Laboratory — America’s nuclear weapons brain trust — Anthony Chavez and Melissa Casias both vanished in 2025 under circumstances that would make a thriller novelist say “that’s too on the nose.” Phones wiped. Wallets and keys left behind. Cars abandoned.
Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland, who commanded key research labs tied to advanced missile and rocket programs — and long rumored to have knowledge about UFO-related programs — walked out of his Albuquerque home in February 2026 carrying only a handgun. He was never seen again.
Who’s Hunting America’s Brightest?
Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker has warned that foreign adversaries like Communist China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea have been aggressively targeting Americans with access to exactly this kind of classified technology for decades. Not years. Decades.
And he’s right. This is Espionage 101. You don’t just steal the blueprints — you eliminate the people who can build the next version. You kneecap the competition permanently.
But there’s another theory floating around, and it’s not coming from tinfoil-hat territory anymore. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) recently appeared on Newsmax discussing explosive claims by former Rep. Matt Gaetz regarding UFOs and what Gaetz called “biologics that are not human.” Burchett didn’t mince words:
“This country would come unglued.”
He then added something that should make every American’s blood run cold: “The people that know are dying or disappearing.”
A sitting congressman said that. Out loud. On television.
The Silence Is the Story
Trump didn’t drain the swamp just for the fun of watching bureaucrats cry into their lattes. He did it because our institutions have been rotting from the inside for years. And this — whatever this is — might be the most rotten corner yet. When the people protecting America’s technological edge keep turning up dead and the people in charge keep turning up silent, you don’t have a coincidence. You have a cover-up waiting for a crowbar.
Nine scientists. Nine people who knew things most of us never will. And somehow, the most powerful government on Earth can’t explain what happened to a single one of them.
That’s not a mystery. That’s a message. The only question left is who’s sending it.
