If we took their rhetoric at face value, one might assume that liberals are the most charitable and giving people in America. The champagne socialists like Bernie Sanders would happily volunteer to pay additional taxes to help fund the welfare programs they love so much.
As it turns out, it’s precisely the opposite — conservative Americans are by far more charitable. This is especially true for religious conservatives, who tend to be involved with churches that are known for their charitable activities.
The left-wing solution to poverty, starvation, and other forms of injustice is a bit different. Instead of volunteering to tackle the problem themselves, they ask others to do it for them. It isn’t enough to go to a soup kitchen once a week — Bill Gates has to pay for it.
The way liberals view charity is incredibly telling. They have no faith in the common person to accomplish ambitious goals. They do, oddly enough, feel pretty confident about the heavy hand of government doing the same.
