Nancy Pelosi appeared on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday to discuss January 6th.
Her message: Trump will face historical judgment.
“No, he’s president of the United States now. But history will, he’ll pay a price in history.”
There’s just one problem with Pelosi’s narrative.
She’s the one who bears documented responsibility for the Capitol security failures that day.
Pelosi’s Version of Events Contradicts the Documented Record
Here’s what Pelosi told host Jonathan Karl:
“We begged him to send the National Guard. Typical of him, he never represents the truth. He said, ‘Well, I was going to send them.’ Get out of here.”
She wants viewers to believe Trump blocked National Guard deployment.
The evidence shows the opposite.
Trump Authorized Troops Days Before January 6th — Capitol Leadership Said No
Multiple officials have testified that Trump authorized National Guard deployment before January 6th.
Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller confirmed Trump gave verbal authorization for troops.
The delay came from Capitol security officials — who answer to congressional leadership, including Pelosi.
Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund testified that he requested National Guard support multiple times before January 6th and was denied.
Who had authority over Capitol security? The Speaker of the House.
Her Own Admission Raises More Questions Than It Answers
Pelosi inadvertently made a revealing admission:
“Even Mitch McConnell was on the phone with us, saying, ‘Get them here right away.’ But they never sent them.”
If both McConnell and Pelosi wanted troops, and Trump allegedly authorized them, why didn’t they arrive?
Because the deployment required approval from Capitol security leadership — which reported to congressional leadership.
Pelosi’s office had direct input into those decisions. She’s never adequately explained what her staff communicated that day.
The January 6th Committee Carefully Avoided Examining Pelosi’s Role
The interview promoted an HBO documentary about January 6th.
What these documentaries consistently avoid: Pelosi’s own communications and decisions during the security breakdown.
Where are the records of what Pelosi’s office told Capitol Police leadership?
Where are the transcripts of her conversations with the House Sergeant at Arms?
What did she know about security preparations, and when did she know it?
The Senate Acquitted Trump on the “Incitement” Charge She’s Still Pushing
Pelosi repeated the claim:
“It was clear that the president of the United States had incited an insurrection.”
Yet Trump was acquitted in his second impeachment trial on this exact charge.
The Senate — including some Republicans who criticized Trump’s conduct — voted to acquit.
If it was so “clear,” why couldn’t Democrats secure a conviction even with the emotions of January 6th fresh in everyone’s minds?
The Same Democrats Who Called 2020 Riots “Mostly Peaceful” Now Demand Accountability
Pelosi piled on the rhetoric:
“What happened that day was horrible. It was an assault on the Capitol, the symbol of democracy to the world. It was an assault on the Congress… an assault on the Constitution of the United States.”
Strong words from someone whose party spent months in 2020 downplaying riots that caused billions in damage, killed dozens, and burned federal buildings.
Those were “mostly peaceful protests.”
January 6th was an “assault on democracy.”
The inconsistency tells you everything about Pelosi’s political motivations.
Voters Already Delivered Their Verdict on the January 6th Narrative
Karl asked the obvious question. Pelosi’s answer was telling:
“No, he’s president of the United States now.”
Trump won the 2024 election decisively. Voters heard four years of January 6th rhetoric. They chose Trump anyway.
If January 6th was the defining moment Pelosi claims, why didn’t voters care?
Because most Americans saw through the politicization. They understood the narrative was designed to damage Trump, not pursue truth.
Appealing to “History” Is the Last Refuge of a Politician Who Lost the Present
Pelosi’s final refuge: future vindication.
“He’ll pay a price in history.”
When you can’t win elections, you appeal to historians.
When voters reject your narrative, you claim posterity will agree with you.
It’s the last argument of someone who has lost the present debate.
Real Historical Accountability Would Include the Speaker Who Controlled Capitol Security
If we’re discussing historical accountability for January 6th, let’s include everyone.
Why was Capitol security so inadequate despite known threats?
Why were National Guard requests denied or delayed before the event?
What role did Pelosi’s office play in those decisions?
Why has she never testified under oath about her actions?
History should judge everyone’s conduct that day — including the Speaker who controlled Capitol security and then led the investigation that carefully avoided examining her own role.
Trump Is President Again While Pelosi Watches From the Sidelines
That’s the bottom line.
Trump is president. Pelosi is a backbencher doing media hits.
Trump won the popular vote. Pelosi’s party lost the Senate and the House.
The American people rendered their verdict on January 6th narratives in November 2024.
Pelosi can appeal to history. History begins with the judgment voters just delivered.
“He’ll pay a price in history.”
He’s paying a price right now — the price of being president again while Nancy Pelosi watches from the sidelines.
