Vice President Kamala Harris has insisted that the debate with former President Donald Trump occur on ABC News on September 10 instead of September 4 on Fox News.
While Fox News has not always been for Trump, political insiders see ABC News as a DNC supporter, particularly after former House Speaker Paul Ryan joined Fox’s board of directors.
“Donald Trump is trying to back out of the debate he previously committed to out of fear, and Fox News is his first port of call. “He has to quit fooling around and attend the debate that he has already agreed to on September 10th,” Michael Tyler, the director of communications for the Harris campaign, told Newsweek.
“In one form or another, the vice president will be present to seize the chance to address a prime-time national audience. After the debate, which both camps have already committed to, we would be delighted to discuss future ones. That shouldn’t be an issue for Mr. Anytime, Anywhere, Anywhere, unless he’s too afraid to turn up on the 10th, he said.
Late on Friday, Trump said that on September 4, he would face Harris on Fox News. “Sleepy Joe Biden was the opponent of the original ABC debate schedule, but Biden has decided not to participate in the event,” he said on Truth Social.
He went on, “The FoxNews Debate will take place in the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at a location to be announced. “The rules of the debate will be identical to my debate with Biden, who has been treated unfairly by his Party—BUT WITH A FULL Audience!” The debate moderators, Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier, made this announcement.
Prior to Biden’s withdrawal from the race, Trump and Biden had agreed to a debate on September 10. However, the head of Trump’s campaign communications, Steven Cheung, announced the cancellation of the debate on July 25.
At the time, he stated, “[Democrats] very well might still alter their minds, so it would be wrong to plan things with Harris.”
