Despite an order from his homeowners association to remove his pro-Trump flag and decorations because they are against HOA regulations, a man in California is standing by his decision.
Paul Wood Bonilla thinks the HOA in his Lodi home is against him because some of the group’s representatives don’t agree with the political message.
“I will not submit to bullying; I firmly believe in the American way.”
“I knew I was going to have a hard time the minute I started supporting Trump,” Bonilla said to KOVR-TV.
According to a letter that Bonilla received, the HOA prohibits signs larger than three square feet. He makes no reference to the political implications of signing the letter.
“The man took a bullet for me,” Bonilla said, speaking of Trump. “I will stand with him.”
If the HOA were to file a legal challenge, a local attorney informed KOVR that it would probably lose.
According to Michael Wise, “The HOA is entirely incorrect.” “It cannot in any way compel him to take it down.”
Wise cited a state statute that permits signs no larger than nine square feet.
According to Wise, “It’s on an allowed medium; it doesn’t violate state or federal law; and it doesn’t jeopardize public safety or health.”
Bonilla says he won’t back down from the HOA.
“I am going to defend my convictions. “I have faith in President Trump,” said Bonilla. “I will not submit to intimidation; I stand by the American way.”
Additionally, KOVR talked with a neighbor who had an issue with Bonilla’s placards.
“I believe that to be significant,” Jim Brent said. “It seems obtrusive to me. In my opinion, it has nothing to do with the message. The difference lies in the way he articulates the message.”
According to Bonilla, other neighbors like his decorations and plan to erect placards in his honor.
KOVR says neither the management business nor the HOA were willing to comment. On its YouTube news video, the channel posted an interview with Bonilla.
