The “corporation” has been the target of virtually all left-wing rhetoric since Karl Marx penned The Communist Manifesto, and today’s image gives us a modern look at this dated sentiment.
Here, we see a leftist interpretation of the Gadsden flag, a Revolutionary War-era symbol used by colonists to visualize their contempt for being oppressed by a tyrant roughly 3,000 miles away from their own homes.
The implication is that there is an organized corporate oppression taking place in the United States to which conservatives are either unaware of or completely complicit with. The validity of this sentiment is rather irrelevant, because comparing corporate control with government oppression is ridiculous.
Unlike corporations, governments enjoy a monopoly of physical force — that is, they are the only entity with the legal rights and means to exercise harm in the event one of its subjects steps out of line. On the other hand, private businesses have no power anywhere in the world to police their own employees, form a military, or anything close to that.
This is the perfect example of a false equivalency.
