What Could Go Wrong? Twitter to Outsource Its Censorship

File this one under “What could possibly go wrong?” Twitter is now going to have a “community” team of censors called “Birdwatch,” which will be used to vet everyone’s tweets for truthfulness.

It was pretty hilarious when the announcement was first made. A bunch of conservative firebrands like Dana Loesch and Jack Posobiec quickly volunteered for the Birdwatch team – but Twitter immediately turned them down. Jack Dorsey doesn’t want right-wingers deciding what’s true or not on Twitter! Especially since CNN is allowed to tweet whatever it wants on the platform!

The screen grab in this meme is absolutely perfect for describing Twitter’s latest scheme. Steve Buscemi on ‘30 Rock’ as an obviously old cop trying to go undercover in a high school (“How do you do, fellow kids?”) is as comically transparent as Dorsey’s latest community speech policing effort.

Oh, well. Not like we can do anything about it now. Republicans had four years to step and prevent Twitter from becoming the de facto dictators over what can or can’t be said online, and as usual, they sat around and cluelessly waited for the problem to fix itself.
