Just days after officially announcing plans to run for president in 2020, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is the Democratic Party’s frontrunner for the nomination.
This really isn’t surprising. While it’s true that basically everyone running is doing so partially through adopting parts of his 2016 platform, Sanders is the only candidate in the Democratic field with a real track record of being consistently crazy and far-left. Kamala Harris is a narc, and Elizabeth Warren is just too white. Sure, the same can be said for Sanders, but liberal millennials who have remained spellbound by his plans to make their student debts disappear don’t seem to care for some reason.
There is an obvious concern with the prospect of a President Sanders — one the democratic socialist continues to pretend doesn’t even matter. In the event of a general election victory, Sanders will be 79 years old on election day. Because of this, there are serious doubts that he would even be able to make it through his first term — let alone two. But, since this is something we’re not supposed to care about, we have to just pretend his vitality isn’t an issue.
