Decades from now when historians look back at 2019, there are going to be a lot of things that
will make them scratch their heads and wonder, “How did that happen?” For example, historians
will still be trying to figure out how Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was ever elected to Congress.
Another thing they will wonder is why so many people believed that global warming would
murder everyone. But the biggest conundrum of all for future historians will be trying to figure
out how the supposedly really smart countries got so confused about how many bathrooms we
need.
In private, most people still agree wholeheartedly that two is the perfect number. Yet you cannot turn your television on these days without some “expert” arguing that we have more than two genders. And none of them agree on how many there are!
The total number of genders apparently ranges from 57 on the low end to approximately 700,000
if you read the New York Times. Hopefully, future historians will stumble across this meme,
which helpfully explains the exact number of genders that there are.
